American Cancer Society and Chevrolet Celebrate 10-Year Partnership in Fight Against Breast Cancer

While Making Strides events have gone virtual this year, Chevrolet will continue support the events at the national, regional and local level all month. Employees across the country are participating in local Making Strides Against Breast Cancer events by “walking where they are” and making donations.

On October 1, Chevrolet launched its monthlong #IDriveFor social media campaign, which encourages people to share whom they drive for using the hashtag. Chevrolet will contribute $5 for every social post (up to $220,000) on Twitter or Instagram using #IDriveFor.

Chevrolet is also showing its support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Making Strides by turning the towers of the Renaissance Center global headquarters in Detroit pink during October, displaying a pink fleet of vehicles and painting the sidewalks in front of the Renaissance Center pink.

“We are more grateful than ever for Chevrolet’s partnership, 10 years strong,” said Gary Reedy, chief executive officer of the American Cancer Society. “Cancer hasn’t stopped for COVID-19. Chevy’s continued commitment to Making Strides, ensures we can fund the future and continue the progress we have made in the fight against breast cancer through groundbreaking research, providing access to care and providing screenings for those who need it most.”

“Many things look different today than they did a year ago, but the commitment by ACS to continue the fight against breast cancer remains unwavering,” said Steve Majoros, U.S. vice president, Chevrolet Marketing. “Chevy is proud to continue our commitment to Making Strides with the rollout of the #IDriveFor campaign. We are excited to leverage technology to create a virtual community fueled by the shared mission of raising awareness of and financial support for breast cancer research.”

ATLANTA, Oct. 8, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Fashion retailer, Buckle, is again sponsoring Denim Days to support the American Cancer Society (ACS). Denim Days began in 1986, when employees at a private company got together to ask coworkers for donations to “go casual” for the cause. The idea spread, and now companies, schools, and other organizations nationwide have participated. In the weeks leading up to Denim Days, friends and coworkers are asked to donate $5 or more to wear jeans to work one day in October.

In support of the campaign, Buckle will donate $1 to ACS Denim Days for every pair of regular-priced jeans purchased in-store and online from participating brands from October 4 – 25, 2020. Buckle will also contribute 20% from the sale of every t-shirt with a “Unite To Fight” sticker and give their guests the opportunity to support ACS by “Rounding Up” their in-store purchase to the nearest dollar during the same timeframe.

“Buckle has always believed that good business begins with great people doing good things, and we know our October campaign to support the fight against breast cancer is a great way to come together with our teammates, guests, and our great partners like ACS to do something impactful,” shared Dennis Nelson, President and Chief Executive Officer at Buckle.

Buckle’s campaign will help the American Cancer Society provide much-needed resources and support  for the one in eight women who will develop breast cancer in their lifetime.

“We could not be more appreciative of Buckle’s support for Denim Days,” said Gary Reedy, Chief Executive Officer of the American Cancer Society. “Buckle is a great partner in our work to help save lives in the fight against breast cancer, and its team, leadership and guests continue to answer our calls for support.”

Dedicate a Tribute for American Cancer Society’s Tributes at Twilight: A Visual Driving Experience

As part of the Browns’ Crucial Catch initiative, join us for this year’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer: Tributes at Twilight, a visual driving experience in partnership with the American Cancer Society.

Cancer doesn’t stop, so neither do we. Although we are living in a COVID world, it’s still important that we continue the fight against cancer every day. The impact of the pandemic will reduce the ability to fund cancer research by 50% in 2020 – the Society’s lowest investment this century if current trends continue. That is why on Saturday, October 17th from 6:30 – 8:00p.m. at FirstEnergy stadium, the Browns and the American Cancer Society will be hosting a drive-thru Tribute Garden where we will be showcasing Luminaria bags while staying socially distant and safe in cars. The experience will begin at the University Hospital Gate and feature a large, light-up pink chair.

The Tribute Garden will showcase pink and gold bags in support, in honor, or in memory of people’s loved ones who have been affected by cancer. All bags will be displayed and lit during the drive-thru experience. If you would like to dedicate a tribute, you can purchase one here for a donation of $10 or $25.

The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer movement raises awareness and funds to end breast cancer and ensures that no one faces this disease alone.

In honor of the event, FirstEnergy Stadium, Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse and Terminal Tower will all be lit pink. We invite you to get in your car and drive down to the stadium on October 17 to experience this can’t miss drive-thru event!

If you attend, share your experience with us by using #give10 and tagging @BrownsGiveBack on social media!

The cost to attach an eCard to an email is one Stamp, and the proceeds from all the Stamps used in the month of October for the “Fight Against Breast Cancer” eCard category will be donated to the ACS.  Incarcerated individuals along with their loved ones in almost 40 states can purchase and attach any of the 20 customer-crafted greeting cards celebrating hope for breast cancer survivors and all those touched by the disease.

“Too many mothers, daughters, sisters and friends are battling this disease – it has to stop,” said Jade Trombetta, Senior Manager, Communications and Social Media for Securus Technologies.  “We have proudly supported this cause for years and thank all other organizations and individuals who prominently wear pink and support the fight against breast cancer during the month of October, and throughout the year.  Together we can beat this.”

“We envision a future where our daughters –our children –will no longer live with the threat of breast cancer,” said the National Leadership Team for the American Cancer Society. “Unfortunately, that future is at risk. The impact of COVID-19 will reduce our ability to fund cancer research by 50% in 2020 –our lowest investment this century if current trends continue. Valvoline Instant Oil Change Partners With American Cancer Society To Raise Money In The Fight Against Cancer

NEWTON, Mass., Oct. 5, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — During October, participating Valvoline Instant Oil Change SM (VIOC) locations will offer customers the opportunity to help raise much-needed dollars to support American Cancer Society (ACS) and its Road To Recovery program which helps transport cancer patients to potentially life-saving treatment appointments. For an even bigger impact, customers can download a coupon from ValvolineFightsCancer.com and for every coupon redeemed, VIOC will donate an additional five dollars to ACS.

“DON’T PUT IT OFF!” Recent reports show that due to the pandemic, 46% fewer patients were diagnosed with cancer. This means many cancers won’t be discovered until they are in advanced stages when they are more difficult to treat. In support of ACS, VIOC wants to remind everyone that just like maintaining fluids in their vehicle prevents major repairs, getting recommended cancer screenings does the same for their body.

“We are excited for the opportunity to again partner with ACS,” said William Smelley, Vice President of Marketing for Henley Enterprises, VIOC’s largest franchisee. “Thanks to the generosity of the communities we serve, we’ve raised over $126,000 to help this life-changing organization.”

“Driving awareness about screenings is a core part of our work and will help to save more lives by detecting cancer at its earliest stage,” said Jane Barnes, Regional Director, Corporate Relations for ACS.

Find participating VIOC locations at ValvolineFightsCancer.com. For more information about cancer support and treatment, call (800) 227-2345 or visit cancer.org.

Emirates Oncology Society hosted a panel discussion to outline guidelines for diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer

Dubai, UAE: Around 4,500 cases of cancer are reported in a year in the UAE and the country aims to bring down cancer fatalities to nearly 18 per cent by 2021. Reducing the number of deaths due to prostate cancer is one of the key performance indicators of the pillar of world-class health care of the UAE National Agenda. This was a key topic at a recently held panel discussion that focused on management of prostate cancer patients held by Emirates Urological Society.

The panel discussion witnessed the presence of several key experts. Moderating the panel discussion was Dr Humaid Al Shamsi, President of Emirates Oncology Society (EOS). He was joined by other experts including Dr Neal Shone, Dr Jawaher Ali Ansari and Dr Yasser Farhat.

“Early detection is key to managing prostate cancer. When the disease is in its initial stages (0-II), less aggressive treatment is needed, and the survival rate is almost 100 percent. However, if left undetected and allowed to progress to other areas in the body, the five-year survival rate drops significantly to 30 percent,” said Dr Shamsi.

Elaborating on the need to increase awareness about this cancer that affects men, he said, “Every male above the age of 45 must take a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test. A PSA test is a simple blood test which is used to screen for prostate cancer, helping with early detection.”

At the panel discussion, panellists were offered an opportunity to hear directly from patients of prostate cancers. The summit focused on the often-overlooked emotional burden of the disease, with the aim of allowing the parties to establish a needs-based support programme to address ways of improving cancer patients’ day-to-day quality of life.

In addition, the discussion also highlighted UAE’s efforts in introducing advanced technology to treat cancer, as well as brought to focus latest trends, enhanced facilities and deployment of experts by the UAE which has been a key force in aiding patients with the right treatment.

Symptoms of prostate cancer usually appear during the late stages of the disease, as such experts at the panel encouraged a screening via genetic testing for men with a strong family history of cancer – such as prostate, breast, pancreatic or colon cancer – in order to better understand their risk.

6,500 CIBC team members in communities across Canada participate in reimagined Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure

TORONTO, Oct. 5, 2020 /CNW/ – CIBC team members, families and friends hit the ground running in communities from coast to coast to coast, walking and running in support of the Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure. This year, Team CIBC raised $2 million toward life-saving breast cancer research.

Team CIBC cheers on mother-daughter breast cancer survivors Alma Cercado and Margarita Okumura in support of this year’s reimagined Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure. Across Canada, 6,500 Team CIBC members raised an estimated $2 million for breast cancer research and support. (Courtesy: CIBC) (CNW Group/CIBC)

“While this year’s Run was virtual, the passion, commitment and resilience shown by Team CIBC, our partners at the Canadian Cancer Society and Canadians across the country remained as strong as ever,” says Laura Dottori-Attanasio, CIBC’s Group Head, Personal and Business Banking and Executive Run Sponsor. “When we unite around a shared purpose, great things happen. I am proud of Team CIBC for finding creative, virtual ways to keep the Run spirit alive and to help ensure no Canadian has to face cancer alone.”

This year’s Run was reimagined to include both virtual and in-person elements, where participants had the opportunity to build virtual runners through a refreshed mobile app, and tune into live-streamed opening ceremonies before heading out into their neighbourhoods for a physically distanced walk or run. The live-stream was hosted by award-winning singer-songwriter Jully Black, and brought participants across Canada together at the same time for the first time in the Run’s history. It also featured performances from talented Canadian musicians, testimonials from people affected by breast cancer and a high-energy warm-up featuring fitness leaders from across the country.

Although many aspects of the Run changed this year, what didn’t change is the importance of the fundraising effort. In a recent poll*, 85% of Canadians say they believe it’s important to continue supporting cancer-specific research during the pandemic.

In addition to supporting breast cancer research, CIBC’s support of the Run will also extend to CancerConnection.ca, the Canadian Cancer Society’s online support community for people with cancer and caregivers. The program works to provide emotional support and practical advice about managing cancer while building wellness and resilience. CIBC is proud to support this program at a time when connecting with others online is more important than ever.

“Despite this being a different year, and different Run for all of us, we could not be more proud of the way Canadians rallied and continued to support the breast cancer cause,” says Andrea Seale, CEO, Canadian Cancer Society. “We know from recent research that the pandemic has impacted the ability to donate for one-third of Canadians*, but together with CIBC’s support, we’re able to bring CancerConnection.ca, to people with cancer and caregivers at a time when they may be feeling particularly isolated and alone. For 24 years we have walked and run together with CIBC and despite the impacts of COVID-19, this year was no different.”

As title sponsor of the Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure for 24 years, Team CIBC has raised more than $56 million for breast cancer research, treatment, education and support programs. United together by One for Change, Team CIBC supports its communities year-round through fundraising, donations and
