Law & Order: SVU has promoted Demore Barnes to a series regular for season 22.
Deadline reports the actor will reprise his role as Deputy Chief Christian Garland in the forthcoming season on a more permanent basis.
Garland was introduced in season 21 as a character trying to modernise the NYPD alongside Captain Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and appeared in over a third of the episodes.
Barnes has also starred in American Gods, Hemlock Grove, Hannibal and Titans.

The promotion comes as filming for Law & Order: SVU season 22 began last month amid the coronavirus pandemic.
It also follows an announcement in February that the show had been renewed for four more seasons, securing its future on air for a whopping 25 seasons.
Speaking recently, Law & Order: SVU showrunner Warren Leight confirmed the return of another familiar face – as he revealed Christopher Meloni will return as Elliot Stabler in season 22’s first episode.
“It’s pretty clear that Elliot will be in the SVU season opener,” he previously told the Law & Order: SVU behind-the-scenes podcast.

“I think that much I know.”
Leight also recently shared his views that cop shows are “miscontributing” to society, in the wake of the Black Lives Matter protests.
Law & Order: SVU airs on NBC in the US.
